1st Ride Along

Dear Tobey,

Hi love. I am tired! I went for a ride along this morning at 7:30 at the animal shelter. I went with Dave, a humane officer. We picked up two dead cats, picked up one almost dead opposum, one almost dead kitten, a stray nursing mom cat with three kittens, and a stray rottweiler. We were also trying to pick up this pitt bull on the streets, but she ran away. When we got back, he euthanized the opposum and the very sick and almost dead kitten. I think the rotty was also put down just because the chances of it getting adopted were slim to none. It's a very real experience that really shows the effects of our society not being able to control the domestic animal population. It's very sad.. what's worse is that people fail to see these consequences, or don't even care that there are consequences. And those animals have to pay for it. It's not just about overpopulation... it's also about pet owner irresponsibility!! Not providing them with the shelter that they need... not spaying or neutering their pet.... It's very frustrating. And I can see that the officers get frustrated with it too. I wish people would see and understand what is going on out there in the real, cold animal world.
